As the UAE celebrates World Teachers' Day, three long-serving educators share the stories behind their enduring passion for teaching and how they’ve positively impacted countless lives.
Louis La Grange, affectionately known as "Mr. L" by his students at Uptown International School, is more than just a science and ICT teacher—he’s also a storyteller who weaves life lessons into his teachings. With over three decades of experience, Mr. L reflects on the influence his own teacher had on him and how it inspired him to make a lasting difference in his students' lives. Known for his unique teaching style, Mr. L hopes to be remembered as the "Big Friendly Giant" who enriched students' lives with stories that carried valuable lessons.
Eman Al Jahmani, who has spent 24 years at GEMS Al Khaleej International School, sees her school as a second home. Serving as the Arabic language coordinator, Eman describes the deep connection she has with her students, who she views as her own children. Over the years, she’s had the privilege of teaching two generations of students, witnessing firsthand the impact she’s had on their lives, with one former student now a doctor.
Shahina Zarook, an educator with 31 years of experience, emphasizes the importance of social and emotional development in today’s technology-driven world. Currently teaching at Indian High School, Shahina believes that while technology and artificial intelligence are transforming education, nothing can replace the emotional support teachers provide in guiding young minds.
These inspiring educators demonstrate the lasting impact that passionate teaching can have, going beyond the classroom to shape students' futures for the better.
