The United Arab Emirates has officially announced reduced working hours for private sector employees during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), private sector employees across the UAE will have their daily working hours reduced by two hours during Ramadan.
Flexible and Remote Work Options
The ministry also stated that private companies can implement flexible work schedules or remote work policies, depending on their operational requirements. However, these adjustments must comply with the daily working hours set for Ramadan.
Public Sector Working Hours
Earlier, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) confirmed working hours for public sector employees:
- Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Friday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Expected Start of Ramadan
Astronomers from the UAE’s International Astronomy Centre (IAC) have predicted that Ramadan 2025 will likely begin on Saturday, March 1. The crescent moon is expected to be visible on the night of February 28, which marks the 29th day of Shaban. Official moon-sighting committees will meet on this day to confirm the start of the holy month.
Ramadan, one of the holiest months in Islam, lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the lunar cycle. The exact date for Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, will also be determined through moon sighting.
A Month of Reflection and Adjustments
With shorter working hours, businesses and employees will have more flexibility to observe fasting, engage in religious activities, and spend time with family. The UAE continues to prioritize work-life balance while maintaining business efficiency during the sacred month.
