Dubai – The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has announced adjusted working hours for ministries and federal government employees during the holy month of Ramadan 2025.
New Work Timings for the Public Sector
- Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM (Reduced by 3.5 hours)
- Friday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Reduced by 1.5 hours)
These adjusted hours apply to most government employees, except for those whose job roles require different work schedules.
Flexible and Remote Work Options
- Ministries and federal employees may continue their approved flexible work arrangements as long as they meet the daily work hour requirements.
- Up to 70% of employees can work remotely on Fridays, in accordance with official guidelines.
Expected Start Date of Ramadan 2025
According to the Hijri calendar published by the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), Ramadan is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025. The official moon-sighting committee will confirm the exact date on February 28, 2025.
Muslims around the world will start observing fasting once the Ramadan crescent is sighted. Islamic months last either 29 or 30 days, depending on lunar visibility.
Regular Federal Work Hours in the UAE
Outside of Ramadan, UAE federal government employees follow a four-and-a-half-day workweek:
- Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
- Friday: 7:30 AM – 12:00 PM
- Weekend: Saturday and Sunday
Sharjah Exception:
- Government employees in Sharjah have a four-day workweek, with Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays off.
Workweek System Across the UAE
Local government entities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah follow a similar four-and-a-half-day work schedule.
