The UAE is preparing for potential heavy rainfall and coastal flooding as a tropical depression develops in the Arabian Sea. According to the UAE’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM), initial data suggests indirect impacts on the country, with the possibility of rough seas and water surges in coastal areas.
In response to these forecasts, the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) convened a meeting to evaluate the situation and ensure that emergency measures are in place. Key agencies and the Joint Assessment Team discussed readiness strategies and analyzed weather trends to mitigate the effects of severe weather.
The tropical depression, which formed near the western coast of India, is expected to deepen as it moves towards the central Arabian Sea. Some areas in the eastern UAE have already experienced heavy rainfall, hail, and flooding, particularly in regions like Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, where waterfalls have appeared, and wadis have overflowed.
Authorities are urging citizens to stay informed through official channels, as further advisories may be issued if weather conditions worsen. In Oman, work and schools have been suspended in anticipation of the tropical storm, and residents are advised to follow safety protocols. The UAE, entering its rainy "Al Wasmi" season, may continue to see showers in the coming days.
As the tropical depression intensifies, safety measures are being enforced, and residents are reminded to exercise caution, especially in coastal areas. Citizens in Oman are advised to contact emergency numbers in case of any concerns.
