Parents and students in the UAE have expressed mixed emotions after the early release of first-semester exam results for the 2024-2025 school year. The Ministry of Education (MoE) surprised many by releasing the grades ahead of schedule, with results for students in grades 1-4 released on January 8, grades 5-8 on January 9, and grades 9-12 on January 10, 2025.
Many parents voiced dissatisfaction with the difficulty of subjects like Math, Science, and Arabic, where few students received full marks. Some parents, including Mona, the mother of a 4th-grade student, were concerned about grades in subjects that were not fully covered during the semester.
Fares A., an eighth-grade student, expressed frustration over his performance, failing Science and struggling with Math. Despite this, he is determined to improve. Some students who received high marks also faced parental concerns, as in the case of Eman, whose children received F's in several subjects, leaving her shocked despite her active involvement in their studies.
While some students were disheartened, others like Maryam felt relief over their children's better-than-expected performance. Humaid Adel, a 12th-grade student, was proud of his grades and felt confident about his readiness for college.
Overall, many parents continue to support their children, focusing on improvement as the school year progresses.
