Dubai: As news spread across the UAE that the crescent moon had been sighted, officially marking the beginning of Ramadan, worshippers across the country gathered in mosques after Maghrib prayers, eagerly preparing for the first Taraweeh prayer of the holy month.
A Night of Devotion and Reflection
The announcement sparked excitement, with many choosing not to return home but instead immersing themselves in prayer and spiritual preparation for the special night.
Amir Shuhaib, a resident of Ras Al Khaimah, said he decided to stay back at the mosque as soon as he heard the moon had been sighted.
“I am spending my time in worship and preparing my heart and mind for the holy month. I wish all my brothers in Islam, Ramadan Kareem,” he said.
Families and Communities Gather
Mosques were filled with worshippers, including families and children, who spent time in quiet recitation of the Quran and dhikr (remembrance of God).
Mohammed Ali, a Dubai resident, shared that he and his friends had anticipated the announcement and came prepared.
“We packed our prayer mats and water bottles before leaving for Maghrib, just in case. Once the moon sighting was confirmed, we stayed back, using this time to pray and reflect. The first night of Ramadan always carries a special feeling,” said Ali.
As the first Taraweeh prayers commenced, the atmosphere in mosques across the UAE reflected a deep sense of faith, unity, and anticipation for the spiritual journey ahead.
