Dubai, UAE - In a recent round of inspections conducted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), a total of 352 violations were recorded at various labour accommodations across the UAE. These inspections, carried out between May 20 and June 7, flagged several issues including inadequate ventilation and air conditioning, unsafe conditions for flammable materials, and poor sanitation and general cleanliness standards.
The Ministry's electronic Labour Accommodation System currently registers over 1,800 companies, and approximately 1.5 million workers reside in labour accommodations throughout the UAE. Some of the non-compliant companies have been warned, while others faced fines. Certain companies were granted up to one month to address the issues in their accommodations.
Mohsin Ali Al Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at the MoHRE, emphasized the ministry's commitment to ensuring that labour accommodations meet the highest standards of comfort, safety, and security. “Ministry inspectors regularly carry out field visits to labour accommodation facilities across the UAE to ensure companies comply with their responsibility of providing adequate and comfortable housing for their workers,” he said.
The MoHRE continues to monitor labour accommodations closely to ensure compliance and safeguard the welfare of workers in the UAE
