As the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy showdown at Dubai International Stadium approaches, UAE residents are feeling the pressure—not from the match itself, but from desperate last-minute ticket requests. From cricket coaches to former officials, many are being flooded with calls and messages from friends, relatives, and even ex-cricketers and top administrators, all hoping for a golden ticket to the blockbuster encounter.
Frustration Among Cricket Insiders
Gopal Jasapara, head coach of G Force Cricket Academy in Dubai, shared his frustration, saying:
"People assume that because I’m a cricket coach in Dubai, I can arrange tickets for everyone. But it doesn’t work that way."
Even a former top cricket administrator from India reached out to him, hoping to secure four tickets—a testament to the overwhelming demand.
Meanwhile, Tariq Butt, a former UAE cricket umpire, recalled how he used to receive ticket requests even from diplomats:
"In the 1990s, I got calls from the Consulate General of Pakistan for tickets. Back then, we managed a few, but now it’s impossible."
Mohamed Lokhandwala, ex-manager of the UAE national cricket team, was stunned when a former India cricketer called him for tickets.
"He’s a good friend, and we played club cricket together in Mumbai. But even he couldn’t get a ticket. It’s embarrassing."
Unmatched Demand for the Biggest Rivalry in Cricket
The struggle for tickets isn’t new. Mazhar Khan, General Manager at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, recalled seeing queues stretching over a kilometer for India-Pakistan matches in the 1980s and 1990s. He believes the craze has only intensified:
"No cricket administration can solve this—this is India vs Pakistan, the biggest rivalry in cricket."
With tickets selling out instantly and online platforms unable to meet demand, UAE residents are left feeling helpless as they brace for Sunday’s high-voltage showdown.
