Dubai, UAE – The Souq Al Freej market, a vibrant pop-up event in Dubai, has once again captured the interest of residents and visitors alike, offering a glimpse into the cultural heart of the UAE. Running from December 13, 2024, to January 19, 2025, the market saw a significant 76% increase in foot traffic compared to last year, drawing over 282,000 visitors. This surge in attendance translated into Dh2 million in sales, a remarkable achievement for the small businesses involved.
Held at Al Warqa 3 Park and Al Barsha Lake Park, the market hosted 63 vendors, including home-based enterprises and local families, who proudly showcased their products. From freshly prepared harees to beautifully handcrafted Emirati jalabiyas, the market offered a diverse selection of goods, each representing a piece of local tradition and craftsmanship.
A Platform for Local Entrepreneurs
The souq has become a cornerstone for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), giving local creators a direct connection to the community. It provided a stage for over 45 food and beverage projects, as well as more than 185 activities such as workshops, live entertainment, and exhibitions. This family-friendly event has solidified its reputation as a must-visit destination for both residents and tourists seeking a taste of local culture and innovation.
Now in its third consecutive year, the event is part of an ongoing initiative by Dubai Municipality to support small businesses, particularly home-based entrepreneurs, during the winter season. For many participants, the souq serves as a launching pad for new ideas, and for others, it’s an annual tradition that attracts loyal customers and boosts their businesses.
Celebrating Emirati Craftsmanship
Among the standout vendors is Fatima, an Emirati entrepreneur who has been attending the souq each year with her exquisite collection of handmade jalabiyas. Crafted using locally sourced fabrics and adorned with traditional Emirati embroidery, her designs have garnered attention for their authenticity and quality. Fatima expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to connect with the community and grow her brand through this platform.
The success of Souq Al Freej highlights the growing trend of local entrepreneurship in the UAE, where home-based businesses are thriving thanks to the support of initiatives like this market. It also underscores the importance of fostering a space where the community can come together to support and appreciate locally made products.
