Dubai– With winter officially starting on December 21, parts of the UAE, including Dubai, are set to experience significant rainfall over the coming days. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has forecasted varying intensities of rain, particularly in the eastern and northern regions, influenced by a surface low-pressure system from the southeast.
Dr. Ahmed Habib, a climate expert at NCM, explained, “The UAE is under the influence of a low-pressure system originating from the Arabian Sea, bringing substantial water vapor from the Arabian and Oman Seas. An upper-level cold air mass will further enhance the formation of convective clouds, resulting in scattered rainfall.”
Rainfall Forecast:
- Key Regions: Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, northern Abu Dhabi, and parts of Dubai.
- Peak Impact: Expected on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25) and Thursday, December 26.
- Areas of Heavy Rainfall: Mountainous regions in the north and east.
Temperature Variations:
The onset of winter brings noticeable fluctuations in temperatures across the UAE:
- Daytime Highs: 22°C to 27°C.
- Nighttime Lows: 6°C to 12°C in inland areas; coastal areas will experience slightly warmer conditions.
- Coldest Regions: Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah and Rakhna in Al Ain, known for significant drops in temperature due to unique topography.
Dr. Habib noted that the UAE will experience cooler air masses from Siberia and northern Europe in the coming weeks. January is typically the coldest month, with February recording the highest rainfall.
Residents and tourists are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and prepare for cooler temperatures and rain.
