Rush hour traffic in the UAE is a daily struggle for many commuters, with travel times often stretching into hours. However, a growing number of residents are transforming this challenge into an opportunity by heading straight to the gym after work. This trend not only saves time but also enhances mental and physical well-being.
For Alaa Alhaj, a heavy evening commute turned into a chance for self-care. "Instead of battling traffic for over two hours, I decided to streamline my routine by going to the gym after work. By the time I finish, the traffic has eased, and I can get home much faster," she shared. Alaa noticed significant improvements in her energy levels and productivity, saying, "It feels great to invest time in something meaningful for my health rather than wasting it in traffic."
Similarly, Rania Moustafa, 23, began working out during rush hour to avoid long waits in traffic. “Sitting all day for work and then sitting in traffic felt draining,” she explained. "Now, I head to the gym, which helps me stay active and releases the stress of the day." For Rania, the gym is more than just a place to exercise—it’s a way to maintain her work-life balance.
For Diya Jadallah, commuting two hours daily between Dubai and Ajman was overwhelming. "I realized I needed to break the cycle of just driving and resting at home. The gym became my sanctuary," he said. "It helps me release tension, stay fit, and sleep better, making the commute feel less exhausting."
Hazem Hamra also turned to the gym after realizing he was spending hours stuck in traffic. "Instead of sitting in a car for three hours, I now spend that time improving my health. By the time I leave the gym, the traffic is lighter, and I get home faster," he said.
This growing trend underscores a shift in how UAE residents are adapting to urban challenges. By turning frustrating commutes into time for fitness and self-improvement, people are not just reclaiming their evenings—they’re investing in their overall well-being.
