Dubai – A powerful dust storm swept through Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, significantly reducing visibility and affecting air quality across the region. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) reported that blowing dust had reduced horizontal visibility to less than 1,500 meters in some areas, particularly over Zayed City and Shakhbout City in Abu Dhabi, around 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, light rain was recorded in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi, adding to the challenging weather conditions. Motorists have been urged to exercise caution due to wet and slippery roads, which increase the risk of accidents. Authorities also advised residents with dust allergies and respiratory issues to remain indoors until conditions improve.
Safety Advisory for Residents
-
Motorists: Reduce speed, use fog lights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
-
Residents with respiratory issues: Stay indoors, keep windows closed, and use air purifiers if available.
-
General Public: Avoid unnecessary outdoor activities until visibility improves.
Weather Forecast
According to the NCM, weather conditions are expected to improve by Thursday. The forecast predicts fair to partly cloudy skies in some areas, with light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds ranging from 10 to 25 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 35 km/h. The Arabian Gulf is expected to experience moderate sea conditions, while the Oman Sea will remain relatively calm.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and advise residents to stay updated on weather alerts. Travelers and outdoor workers are encouraged to take necessary precautions until normal conditions resume.
