Dubai: On January 17, 2025, the UAE reflected on three years since the Houthi rebels launched an attack targeting civilian infrastructure in the country. The assault on this day in 2022 struck the Musaffah ICAD 3 area and a construction site at Abu Dhabi International Airport, resulting in explosions that killed three people and left six others injured. The Houthis confirmed their involvement in the attack.
In a message shared on X, President Sheikh Mohamed remarked, "January 17 is a day to reflect on the strength, resilience, and solidarity of the UAE’s people. These values remain a source of immense pride and honor for our nation, and we are committed to passing them on to future generations. May our nation always stand as a symbol of unity and goodwill for all."
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, also commemorated the day by emphasizing the unity and dedication shown by the people of the UAE. "The UAE will continue to be a place of security, prosperity, and stability," he wrote.
A recent report from the Trends Research and Advisory Centre, titled The Houthi Threat to Regional Security: Lessons from January 17, analyzed the UAE’s effective response to the terrorist attack. The study underscored the solidarity displayed by both citizens and residents, as well as the nation’s diplomatic efforts to secure international support. It also highlighted the UAE Armed Forces' ability to respond to national security challenges swiftly.
The research stressed the importance of fostering international cooperation and intelligence-sharing to combat emerging threats, as well as the need for a political solution to the ongoing Yemeni conflict. The report also pointed out the significant role of Emirati youth in promoting national security awareness and standing against extremist ideologies.
Today, January 17, is remembered not only for the tragic attack but for the UAE's unwavering resilience and the nation's continued commitment to unity in the face of adversity.
