Dubai, UAE – A gold-plated Tesla Cybertruck may be a dream for many, but for Someswararao Mungi, the 38-year-old fintech professional who won the extravagant vehicle, practicality takes precedence. Instead of keeping the 24K gold-plated Cybertruck, Mungi has decided to sell the car, choosing to maintain his modest lifestyle.
A Life-Changing Stroke of Luck
Mungi, originally from Andhra Pradesh, India, has been living in the UAE since 2021, working as an engineer and professional service consultant at Swift Network. His fortune changed unexpectedly when he switched his shopping destination from Mina Bazaar to the Dubai Gold Souk Extension for jewelry.
“I had never shopped at the Gold Souk Extension before,” Mungi recalled. “We usually visit Mina Bazaar, but this time, we went there unexpectedly. We first bought a mangalsutra for my wife and earrings for my daughter, and later returned to buy a necklace.”
Last-Minute Entry Turns into Grand Prize
Despite making his purchases, Mungi almost forgot to submit his raffle coupon. It was only on the last night before the draw closed, in December 2024, that he finally entered.
“I submitted my coupon on a Sunday night, and the draw closed the next day. I never imagined I would actually win,” he said.
On Friday, when he was handed the key to the gold-plated Tesla Cybertruck, he could barely believe it. “Even after receiving the key, I was in doubt,” he admitted.
Why He’s Selling the Gold-Plated Cybertruck
Although owning a gold-coated Tesla Cybertruck sounds like a luxury, Mungi quickly realized the high cost of maintenance made it impractical.
“I initially thought about keeping it,” he said. “But the cost of maintaining such a luxury car is too high. Owning a vehicle like this should also match your lifestyle, and I prefer to live simply.”
While Mungi remains pragmatic, his wife was overjoyed by the win. “She was more excited than I was. Now, I’m just waiting for the right offer,” he said.
Car Still on Display, Awaiting a Buyer
The gold-plated Cybertruck is still showcased at the Dubai Gold Souk Extension, waiting for its next owner. Mungi, who is actively seeking a buyer, is unsure of the car’s exact value due to its gold-plated exterior.
“I don’t know the actual value of the car,” he admitted. “But whoever buys it can take it straight from the Gold Souk Extension.”
For now, the Cybertruck remains a glittering spectacle, drawing the attention of onlookers—until the right buyer comes along to claim it.
