In a recent Federal National Council (FNC) session, Dr. Maryam Al Bedwawi stressed the urgent need for the UAE to establish more government-operated autism centers to provide affordable and inclusive care for individuals with autism. This call aims to alleviate the financial strain on families who currently rely on private facilities for support.
According to Dr. Al Bedwawi, there are 95 facilities catering to autism in the country, but only 61 offer comprehensive services. Many families face difficulties due to the high costs associated with private centers, making it essential to expand government-led initiatives.
The proposal underscores the importance of accessibility and affordability in supporting autistic individuals and ensuring their well-being. By addressing these challenges, the UAE can further enhance its commitment to inclusive healthcare and community support.
