Dubai is set to become home to the world’s tallest wellbeing resort, an ambitious architectural feat that promises to reshape the city’s wellness and tourism landscape. The Therme Dubai – Islands in the Sky resort, scheduled to open in 2028, will be a sanctuary of relaxation, combining nature, water, and culture into one breathtaking experience. The project, part of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, was recently announced by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The resort will be located in Zabeel Park, next to the Royal Palace, and span over 500,000 square feet. Once completed, the towering facility will rise over 100 meters tall, making it the tallest wellbeing resort in the world. Designed to welcome an estimated 1.7 million visitors annually, the Therme Dubai resort will boast multiple botanical islands, stacked terraces, and suspended gardens.
Each island will serve as a platform for thermal pools, decks, and indoor and outdoor vegetation. Guests will experience the restorative benefits of thermal and mineral waters, while enjoying panoramic views of Dubai’s iconic skyline. The resort aims to combine relaxation with culture, offering spaces for artistic performances and events during the evening. By day, the environment will be contemplative and soothing, while by night, it will transform into a hub of vibrant activity.
Dr. Robert Hanea, Founder and CEO of Therme Group, expressed the company’s vision for the project: “We are shaping how cities can integrate nature, water, and culture to elevate quality of life at scale. This resort will be a global landmark in wellness and sustainability.”
Sustainability at its Core
Sustainability will be at the heart of the Therme Dubai project. The resort will recycle 90% of the water used in its thermal pools, aiming to minimize environmental impact. In addition, 80% of the fresh air and cooling needs will be met through clean energy sources, ensuring the resort operates in an eco-friendly manner.
Elizabeth Diller, Founding Partner of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the architectural firm responsible for the design, described the resort as an “oasis in the sky.” “Visitors will experience the intense heat of saunas and steam rooms, as well as the ambient temperature of thermal pools and cool mineral pools. We are excited to be part of this innovative approach to public baths and landmark architecture in Dubai.”
A Vision for Dubai’s Future
Therme Dubai is one of the latest additions to the city’s ambitious urban planning goals. As part of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, the resort aligns with Dubai’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents and visitors. The project not only underscores Dubai’s growing reputation as a global hub for tourism and wellness but also reflects its determination to lead in sustainability and innovation.
Construction of the Therme Dubai resort is expected to begin in 2026, with the completion slated for 2028. The Dubai government has allocated a significant investment of Dh2 billion toward the development of this groundbreaking project.
As construction gets underway, the Therme Dubai resort is expected to become a must-visit destination for those seeking relaxation, wellness, and a unique cultural experience—transforming the way wellness resorts are perceived worldwide.
