2 Dead, 3 Injured After Roof of Sharjah School Under Construction Collapses

In a tragic incident in Kalba City, Sharjah, two workers lost their lives and three others sustained injuries when the roof of a school under construction collapsed on Sunday afternoon, September 8, 2024. According to Sharjah Police, the injured individuals, who are of Arab and Asian nationalities, suffered varying degrees of injuries, ranging from mild to moderate. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene and provided immediate first aid before transporting the injured to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Colonel Dr. Ali Al-Khamoudi, the Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, confirmed that all specialized teams were mobilized to the site of the collapse, including the Sharjah Civil Defense Authority, Kalba Comprehensive Police Station, the Crime Scene Team, National Ambulance, and Kalbaa City Municipality. These teams worked in a coordinated manner to contain the situation, prevent further damage, and ensure the safety of those on-site.

The bodies of the two deceased workers were evacuated from the site, and authorities have since secured the area to facilitate further investigations. Colonel Al-Khamoudi emphasized the need for safety precautions at construction sites to avoid such tragic incidents. The Sharjah Police have launched a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the roof collapse and to assess whether any safety regulations were violated during the construction process.

This incident has raised concerns over safety protocols in construction sites across the UAE.
