An Air India Express flight en route to Sharjah from Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) had a close call when it reported a hydraulic failure shortly after takeoff. The flight, carrying 140 passengers, circled above Trichy airport for over two hours to burn off fuel before making a safe landing. The incident occurred around 5:30 pm, with the aircraft finally touching down at 8:15 pm.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed the issue with the landing gear, but the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) assured that the situation was under control and monitored throughout. The airport was put on high alert, with over 20 ambulances and fire tenders on standby, prepared for any potential emergency.
Following the precautionary landing, the aircraft was grounded for inspection, and an alternate flight was arranged for the passengers to continue their journey. Air India Express emphasized that safety remains its top priority, and the cause of the hydraulic failure will be investigated.
Though the event caused significant inconvenience, it highlighted the effective handling of in-flight emergencies by Air India Express and airport authorities, ensuring the safety of all passengers onboard.
