Saudi authorities have dismantled a five-member drug smuggling network that used an apiaries company as a front to smuggle amphetamine tablets into the Kingdom. The Ministry of Interior confirmed the arrest of four Egyptians and one Saudi national involved in the illicit operation.
A Sophisticated Smuggling Scheme
The gang operated through a local bee import company, concealing narcotic amphetamine tablets within beehives. These shipments were transported into Saudi Arabia and moved via refrigerated trucks to Al Darb Governorate in the Jizan region. Once there, the drugs were promoted and trafficked within the Kingdom.
The Ministry of Interior revealed that the operation was part of a larger strategy to combat organized crime and drug trafficking. The suspects have been handed over to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.
Government’s Stern Warning
In a statement, the Ministry issued a strong warning to those attempting to destabilize the Kingdom through criminal activities:
“We will firmly stand against anyone who attempts to undermine the country’s security and stability and the safety of its citizens and residents, no matter who they are.”
Ongoing Efforts to Combat Drug Trafficking
Saudi Arabia has intensified its crackdown on drug smuggling in recent years. This case follows several high-profile operations, including the seizure of over 11 million amphetamine tablets at Jeddah Port and arrests involving government officials in an airport drug bust.
The Kingdom’s strict measures and zero-tolerance policy toward narcotics aim to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens and residents.
