Sharjah, UAE – Sharjah Police have designated ten locations across the emirate where iftar cannons will be fired to signal the end of the daily fast during Ramadan.

The cannons will be stationed at key locations across the emirate, including:

- Al Siouh Suburb Council
- Al Rahmaniya Suburb Council
- Al Hamriya Suburb Council
Central Region:

- Al Naeem Mosque in Tawila’a, Al Madam
Eastern Region:

Clock Tower and Al Hafiya Lake (alternating in Kalba)
- Khorfakkan Amphitheatre
- Flagpole area, Dibba Al Hisn
Sharjah Police will oversee the operations to ensure the cannons are fired safely and on time throughout the holy month.
Historical Significance of the Iftar Cannon
The tradition of firing cannons to announce iftar dates back to 10th-century Egypt. Over the centuries, it became a cultural and religious practice in many Muslim-majority countries, including the UAE.
Ramadan Moon Sighting and Start Date
The Emirates Fatwa Council has urged Muslims to observe the crescent moon on the evening of Friday, February 28, to confirm the official start of Ramadan. According to the Hijri calendar, the holy month is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Dubai Police had previously announced iftar cannon locations for the emirate, with both stationary and mobile units set up in key areas.
