A UAE-based Palestinian farmer, Abu Muhammed, who runs a farm in Jenin, is facing severe challenges due to the ongoing conflict in his homeland. Known for importing premium products like zaatar, olives, and traditional Palestinian pickles, his business is now threatened as regular exports have become difficult. Before the escalation of the conflict, Abu received monthly shipments of around 600 kg of produce, but the frequency has significantly reduced due to the war. Since the war began, imports arrive only once every few months, with the last shipment in August 2023.
Despite these setbacks, Abu remains hopeful for peace, which would allow him to resume the consistent import of his family’s products that have become a staple for many in Dubai. He started his business in Dragon Mart in 2017, after settling in the UAE in 2014. His farm practices traditional, chemical-free methods, continuing a legacy that spans generations in his family. However, with the conflict impacting logistics, the future of his operations remains uncertain.
