Dubai, UAE: Manjuran Joseph Jacob, a 75-year-old Indian expatriate, is set to leave the UAE after spending nearly five decades in the country. Having arrived in Dubai in 1978 from Muscat, Oman, Jacob reflects on his journey, stating he has built not just a home, but a lifetime of experiences in the UAE.

Jacob arrived in Dubai as a bachelor, and over the years, he has seen his life flourish in the emirate. From starting as an accountant to rising to the position of General Manager in the same organization, Jacob played a key role in nurturing the company over the years. His career in the UAE spanned 45 years, during which he became deeply rooted in Dubai's community and culture. Despite moving back to his hometown in Thrissur, Kerala, Jacob has plans to return to Dubai annually, saying, "I may go out of the UAE, but one can never take the UAE out of me."

His wife, Alphonsa Jacob, 65, shares the sentiment. She recalls the challenges of managing work, family, and household responsibilities during the early years in Dubai. Both have witnessed the city’s transformation, noting the tremendous development by the Dubai government in providing safety, infrastructure, and amenities for residents.

The couple is now looking forward to spending more time with their children and grandchildren. As they prepare for their departure, they carry with them a mix of emotions—gratitude for the prosperous life they had in Dubai and nostalgia for the countless memories and experiences.

Jacob, a Golden Visa holder, emphasized his appreciation for what the UAE has offered him: "The UAE has given me so much—a place to grow, to succeed, to love, and to live."

This blog will tell the story of a longtime Dubai expat who is leaving the UAE after almost five decades. It will reflect on the expat’s journey, from their initial arrival in Dubai to their experiences as the city and region transformed over the years. The post will explore the emotional aspects of leaving after such a long time, the legacy they leave behind, and how the UAE has changed for expats over the years.
