Jerusalem – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Israel is ready to resume military operations in Gaza at any moment, as tensions remain high following a temporary truce.
"We are prepared to resume intense fighting at any moment," Netanyahu stated during a ceremony for combat officers on Sunday. His remarks came a day after Israel halted the release of Palestinian prisoners as part of a ceasefire deal.
War Objectives Remain Unchanged
Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s determination to eliminate Hamas and secure its national security objectives.
"In Gaza, we have eliminated most of Hamas's organized forces, but let there be no doubt — we will complete the war's objectives entirely, whether through negotiation or by other means," he said.
The Israeli military has been engaged in an extensive campaign against Hamas since the deadly October 7 attacks, which saw Hamas militants infiltrate Israeli territory, killing and kidnapping civilians. The war has led to massive destruction and a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, drawing international calls for a long-term ceasefire.
Tensions Over Prisoner Exchange Deal
Israel’s decision to suspend the release of Palestinian prisoners as part of a negotiated truce has added to the uncertainty surrounding peace talks. While the ceasefire deal had temporarily reduced hostilities, Israel’s stance suggests that it sees military action as a necessary tool to achieve its objectives.
The situation remains volatile as international mediators continue to push for diplomatic resolutions, while Israeli leaders signal that the war is far from over.
