Hobby Nation UAE has grown into one of the country’s most vibrant pop culture communities, uniting over 4,000 fans of anime, comics, video games, and cosplay. What began as a small toy-swapping event in a local restaurant a decade ago has evolved into a platform celebrating creativity and diversity. Founder Faisal Q recalls its modest beginnings, stating, “We started as friends trading toys in a restaurant. Today, Hobby Nation is a thriving community celebrating all aspects of pop culture.”

The group has expanded through strategic collaborations, including live-streamed pop culture discussions and partnerships with brands like Laban UP and Rove Hotels. In 2023, a one-day open event organized with Rove Hotels attracted over 1,000 visitors, highlighting the community’s growing influence.

Trina Angeles-Korb, head of operations and events, emphasizes that Hobby Nation aims to create a welcoming space for pop culture enthusiasts. “Our goal is to support creativity, celebrate diversity, and ensure everyone feels like they belong. We measure success through engagement, growth, and the connections we foster.”

One of Hobby Nation’s most celebrated aspects is its cosplay community, which now includes over 100 active participants. Cosplayers invest significant time and effort into creating intricate costumes, showcasing their artistry through workshops, competitions, and themed events. Despite challenges like high costs for specialized materials, the community continues to thrive, encouraging newcomers to join and hone their skills.

Kevin Sebastian, head of content, highlights the community’s role in bridging cultural divides in the UAE, calling it a “platform for expats and locals to connect over shared passions.” As Hobby Nation celebrates its 10th anniversary, it remains a testament to the transformative power of shared interests, offering a space where everyone can connect, create, and belong.
