Dubai: Emirates Airlines reports robust booking numbers for the upcoming summer season, particularly for its US routes, despite current global uncertainties. Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, affirmed that the airline sees no negative impacts from global conditions, describing forward bookings as significantly positive and growing compared to the previous year.
Expanding Network and New Destinations
In 2024, Emirates expanded its network to 150 destinations across 80 countries, adding cities like Antananarivo, Phnom Penh, Lagos, and Edinburgh. Upcoming destinations for 2025 include Siem Reap starting on June 2 and Shenzhen, China, from July. These developments were announced ahead of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), scheduled to begin on April 28.
Deployment of Airbus A350 Aircraft
The ongoing addition of Emirates' new Airbus A350 aircraft is set to further expand the airline's operational capacity. Initially deployed to cities like Edinburgh, Bahrain, Kuwait, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai, Emirates has now received four A350 aircraft and announced a total of 16 destinations aligned with its summer schedule. Additional regional points such as Tunisia, Bologna, and Lyon will also benefit from the new aircraft.
Kazim stated that between 12 to 15 A350s are expected to join the Emirates fleet by summer's end. These aircraft will offer Business, Premium Economy, and Economy class seating, serving regional and secondary markets.
A second phase of A350 deliveries later this year will feature aircraft designed for ultra-long-haul flights, with routes to be announced shortly.
Premium Economy and Retrofit Programme
Emirates continues to see substantial demand for its Premium Economy class, with plans to increase the current capacity of one million seats to two million by the end of 2025. Kazim noted a trend among passengers moving from Economy to Premium Economy as businesses seek cost-effective yet comfortable travel options.
Currently, Premium Economy is available on 51 Emirates aircraft servicing between 36 to 40 destinations, a number projected to double by the financial year's close.
Additionally, Emirates' extensive retrofit program covering 119 aircraft, including A380s and Boeing 777s, has completed enhancements on 51 aircraft. This program will further expand the availability of Premium Economy seating to approximately 73 destinations by the end of 2025.
