A woman in her 30s has been sentenced to five years in prison and fined Dh50,000 by the Dubai Criminal Court for supplying drugs to a male acquaintance. The court also ordered her deportation after completing her sentence.
Case Background
The case dates back to April 2, 2024, when Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department received a tip-off about a man using drugs in the Satwa area. The report also suggested that he possessed illegal substances.
Following an investigation, officers confirmed the allegations and obtained a warrant from the Public Prosecution on April 3 to arrest the suspect and search his residence and vehicle.
Arrest and Investigation
The man was apprehended later that evening. During questioning, he confessed to consuming drugs and revealed that he had received amphetamine and methamphetamine—both classified as controlled psychotropic substances in the UAE—from the female defendant on two occasions.
A urine test confirmed the presence of these substances, and a search of his residence uncovered four packets of crystal meth, which the man admitted he had sourced from the defendant.
Trial and Sentencing
The female defendant, already in police custody on a related drug case, initially confessed during interrogations but later retracted her statement during the trial. The court dismissed her denial, stating that her initial confession was made voluntarily and with full awareness.
The court convicted her of facilitating the consumption of drugs and ruled a five-year prison term, a Dh50,000 fine, and deportation following the completion of her sentence.
Strict Drug Laws in the UAE
This case underscores the UAE's zero-tolerance policy on drugs, with severe penalties for possession, consumption, and distribution. The country’s authorities continue to emphasize vigilance and swift action against narcotics-related crimes to maintain safety and security.
