Dubai Police have intensified their efforts to curb jaywalking in the Naif area, issuing fines to 37 pedestrians since January 2024. Violations, which include crossing from undesignated areas and ignoring traffic signals, result in a Dh400 penalty under Article 89 of the Federal Traffic Law. The move is part of broader efforts to reduce traffic accidents caused by careless pedestrian crossings.
Last year alone, eight people lost their lives and 339 were injured in run-over accidents, many of which occurred because of jaywalking. In 2023, Dubai authorities fined nearly 44,000 pedestrians for similar violations. Naif Police Station continues to educate the public on the dangers of jaywalking, emphasizing the importance of using designated crossings and adhering to traffic signals.
Brigadier Omar Mousa Ashour, Deputy Director of Naif Police Station, reiterated the shared responsibility between pedestrians and drivers in ensuring road safety. He urged pedestrians to always ensure the road is clear before crossing and called on motorists to be vigilant, particularly in high-traffic areas like Naif. This targeted campaign reflects Dubai’s commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing preventable accidents.
