Dubai: Dubai Police have issued a strict warning to sports spectators, urging them to comply with UAE laws designed to ensure the security of sports events and facilities.

Authorities have specifically cautioned against bringing hazardous materials, fireworks, or flammable substances into stadiums, as they pose a serious safety risk to players, officials, and spectators.

The warning follows recent incidents where fans were caught using marine distress signals at football matches—an extremely dangerous act that created hazardous conditions for everyone in attendance.

Swift Police Action to Maintain Stadium Security

Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs, assured the public that Dubai Police remain fully prepared to handle security breaches at sports events.

To ensure public safety, security teams, special operations forces, traffic patrols, and mounted units are deployed at every match.

“Dubai Police will take decisive action against anyone who violates security laws,” Al Ghaithi stated, emphasizing the commitment to protecting spectators, players, officials, and vehicles around stadiums before, during, and after games.

He also urged fans to demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect UAE laws, reinforcing the country’s reputation for world-class event organization.

Rules & Penalties Under UAE Law

According to Federal Law No. 8 of 2014, spectators have specific obligations when attending sports events. Article 17 outlines the following restrictions:

  • Unauthorized Access: Spectators must not enter the playing field or restricted areas without official permission.
  • Dangerous Items Prohibited: Fans must not bring or possess hazardous materials, fireworks, or any other prohibited substances inside sports venues.
  • Weapons Ban: Carrying weapons at sports events is strictly regulated and subject to government approval.

Violating these regulations can result in imprisonment from one to three months, along with fines ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh30,000.

Penalties for Disruptive Behavior

Dubai Police also warned against violent or disruptive behavior in stadiums, highlighting severe penalties for misconduct.

Offenses include:

  • Throwing objects or liquids at spectators
  • Using offensive language or gestures
  • Making racially insensitive remarks
  • Inciting violence

Individuals engaging in such actions could face imprisonment and/or fines between Dh10,000 and Dh30,000.

Additionally, using a sports event for political expression is strictly prohibited and will result in serious legal consequences.

Dubai Police: Zero Tolerance for Safety Violations

Dubai Police reiterated their zero-tolerance approach to anyone jeopardizing public safety at sports venues. The authorities will continue strict enforcement measures to maintain security and uphold the integrity of sporting events in the UAE.
