Dubai Police Unveil AI-Powered Radar System for Detecting Traffic Violations

Dubai – Dubai Police have introduced an AI-powered radar system capable of detecting a wide range of traffic violations, as part of their initiative to enhance road safety and reduce accidents across the emirate.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Dubai Police Headquarters’ Research and Development Center, attended by senior officials, including Brigadier Issam Ibrahim Al Awar, Acting Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic, and Brigadier Engineer Mohammad Ali Karam, Director of Traffic Technologies.

AI Radar Capabilities and Traffic Violation Penalties

Officials detailed the violations that AI-powered radars can detect, along with corresponding fines, black points, and vehicle impoundment periods.

1. Speeding Violations

  • Exceeding the speed limit by more than 80km/h → Dh3,000 fine60-day vehicle impoundment23 black points

  • Exceeding by more than 60km/h → Dh2,000 fine20-day impoundment12 black points
  • Exceeding by more than 50km/h → Dh1,000 fine
  • Exceeding by more than 40km/h → Dh700 fine
  • Exceeding by more than 30km/h → Dh600 fine
  • Exceeding by more than 20km/h → Dh300 fine

2. Running Red Lights and Lane Violations

  • Running a red light → Dh1,000 fine30-day impoundment12 black points

  • Failing to stay in designated lanes → Dh400 fine
  • Heavy vehicles violating lane regulations → Dh1,500 fine12 black points

3. Driving Against Traffic & Road Shoulder Misuse

  • Driving in the wrong direction → Dh600 fine7-day impoundment4 black points

  • Improper use of the road shoulder → Dh1,000 fine30-day impoundment6 black points

4. Seat Belt and Distracted Driving Violations

  • Not wearing a seat belt → Dh400 fine4 black points

  • Using a phone while driving → Dh800 fine4 black points
  • Excessive window tinting → Dh1,500 fine

5. Noise Pollution and Pedestrian Safety

  • Excessive vehicle noise → Dh2,000 fine12 black points

  • Not maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles → Dh400 fine4 black points
  • Not yielding to pedestrians at crossings → Dh500 fine6 black points

6. Wrong Turns and Expired Licenses

  • Making an illegal turn → Dh500 fine4 black points

  • Driving with an expired license → Dh500 fine4 black points
  • Stopping a vehicle in the middle of the road without reason → Dh1,000 fine6 black points

7. Additional Heavy Vehicle Violations

  • Entering restricted areas → Dh1,000 fine4 black points

  • Blocking traffic flow → Dh500 fine

Stricter Traffic Regulations to Improve Road Safety

Dubai Police emphasized that the advanced AI radar system will help in better enforcement of traffic laws and reducing reckless driving incidents.

The initiative aligns with Dubai’s smart city vision, ensuring safer roads while leveraging cutting-edge technology for traffic management.
