Dubai – Dubai’s new Salik toll system has come into effect, introducing dynamic pricing that increases charges during peak hours but removes toll fees between 1 AM and 6 AM. The change is expected to impact daily commuters, with some saving up to Dh50 in just two days by adjusting their travel times.
How Residents Are Benefiting
Many early-morning drivers and late-night travelers are taking advantage of the toll-free hours.
Abu Aiman, a Sharjah resident, says his daily commute to Abu Dhabi is now cheaper.
“I used to avoid toll roads, but now I can take Sheikh Zayed Road without paying Salik. This helps me save both time and money on fuel.”
For Adnan Chaudhry, a long-time Dubai resident, the change allows him to enjoy night drives without extra costs.
“I usually spend Dh48 on tolls during weekend outings. Now, with free Salik after 1 AM, I can explore the city without worrying about extra expenses.”
Impact on Traffic and Travel
The new Salik system is expected to:
- Reduce congestion during peak hours as some drivers shift to off-peak travel.
- Encourage more night-time road use for leisure and work commutes.
- Help residents save on toll and fuel costs by planning their trips more efficiently.
For many, the adjustment in toll fees is making travel across Dubai more affordable and flexible. Authorities will monitor the system’s impact and may make further changes based on traffic trends.
