A Dubai court has sentenced an Asian man to one year in prison for robbing two residents at knifepoint in April 2024. The defendant was also ordered to pay a fine exceeding Dh300,000 and will be deported after serving his jail term. Court records reveal that the victims were transporting seven boxes containing 100 mobile phones valued at Dh296,300 and 62 luxury watches worth Dh10,000. These items were stolen by the gang from an electronics trading company, including high-end Samsung and iPhone phones and premium watches.
In addition to the stolen goods, the accused also took personal items from the victims. From the first victim, an Indian national, the thief stole a Samsung Ultra S22 phone, an Emirates ID, a Dubai-issued driving license, three bank cards, a car key, and Dh17,400 in cash. The second victim, also an Indian national, had his blue Nike wallet taken, which contained an Emirates ID, a driving license, Dh40 in cash, and an Honor 98 phone.
After the robbery, the gang fled the scene, but Dubai Police successfully tracked down the defendant, though his accomplices remain unidentified. Despite denying the armed robbery charges, the man was found guilty by the Dubai Criminal Court.
