The Dubai Court of Appeal has upheld a three-month prison sentence for an Egyptian national convicted of assaulting three men with a knife, issuing threats, and using offensive language during a late-night altercation in the Business Bay area. The defendant will also face deportation after serving his sentence.

Details of the Incident:

According to case records, the incident occurred on April 4, 2024, around 2:45 a.m. The first victim, also an Egyptian, had just finished work and boarded his car in Business Bay. Moments later, the defendant and his accomplice, who remains at large, forced their way into the vehicle.

  • Threats and Assault:
The accomplice entered through the rear passenger door, gripping the victim around the neck, while the defendant squeezed into the driver’s seat. The intruders demanded that the victim drive them elsewhere, using offensive language.
When the victim refused, the accomplice brandished a knife, pressing it against his neck, and repeated the demand.

  • Victim’s Call for Help:
During the 15-minute standoff, the victim opened his car’s sunroof and shouted for help. Two Egyptian men heard the cries and rushed to intervene:

    • One man opened the rear door to assist but was attacked by the accomplice, sustaining cuts to his hands.
    • The other man confronted the defendant by opening the driver’s door and pulling him out. However, the accomplice struck this man across the face with the knife before fleeing.
  • Injuries and Arrest:

    • The first victim suffered stab wounds to his thigh.
    • The second victim sustained cuts to his hands.
    • The third victim had a knife wound to his face.

The group managed to subdue the defendant until the police arrived and arrested him.

Court Findings:

During questioning, the defendant denied the charges, claiming he was trying to mediate a dispute involving his friend and was struck during the scuffle. However, the court found the evidence, including victims’ testimonies and medical reports, sufficient to convict him.

Verdict:

The court sentenced the defendant to three months in prison, followed by deportation. The accomplice remains at large.

The case highlights Dubai’s strict stance against violent crime, emphasizing the city’s commitment to maintaining safety and order for its residents and visitors.
