Dubai: A 23-year-old Indian national has been sentenced to three years in prison, followed by deportation, after being convicted of attempted murder in a labour camp dispute. The Dubai Criminal Court also imposed a Dh50,000 fine for his role in the violent confrontation. The case dates back to December 30, 2023, when an argument between the accused and another labourer turned violent at a residential facility in Al Quoz Industrial Area. Both individuals had reportedly been consuming alcohol before the altercation spiraled out of control.

Alcohol-Fueled Dispute Leads to Brutal Stabbing

Court records reveal that the two men, who shared accommodation, were drinking together when a verbal argument erupted. Witnesses reported that the altercation escalated when the accused felt insulted and, in a fit of rage, retrieved a knife and attacked the victim.

Medical reports confirmed that the victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest, face, and abdomen, causing severe internal bleeding that required immediate medical intervention at Rashid Hospital.

Following the attack, the accused attempted to hide within the labour campcausing further disturbance before being apprehended by authorities.

Police Response and Arrest

Law enforcement officials responded swiftly after receiving reports of a violent brawl at the labour accommodation. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim lying in a pool of blood, struggling for survival.

The accused was located and arrested shortly after the incident, with police recovering the weapon used in the attack.

During the court proceedings, the accused denied any intent to kill, claiming that he was heavily intoxicated at the time and had no clear recollection of his actions.

Eyewitness Testimonies Highlight Erratic Behavior

A co-worker who witnessed the incident testified that the accused was acting strangely and unpredictably before the stabbing.

"He was laughing at random moments and behaving unusually. Both of them were sitting together, and suddenly, they started arguing. Within seconds, the accused lashed out and stabbed the victim," the witness recalled.

Additional Charges and Sentencing

In addition to the attempted murder charge, the court found the accused guilty of alcohol consumption and causing a public disturbance, leading to an additional six-month prison term and a Dh100,000 fine.
