Dubai: As Dubai International Airport (DXB) gears up for one of its busiest holiday seasons, Dubai Airports has introduced a new real-time navigation tool, DXB Express Maps, to help passengers move seamlessly through its crowded terminals.
The smart wayfinding tool allows travelers to access interactive airport maps by scanning a QR code displayed on flight information screens. Passengers can instantly locate their gates, explore dining and shopping outlets, and find airport facilities such as lounges, restrooms, and customer service desks.
DXB Prepares for Holiday Travel Surge
Dubai Airports expects more than 3.6 million passengers to pass through DXB from March 26 to April 7, averaging 276,000 travelers per day. The busiest day is anticipated to be Saturday, April 5, when 309,000 travelers are projected to transit through the airport.
According to airport officials, departures during the Eid holiday week are set to increase by 19% compared to the past month’s weekly average, reflecting a seasonal surge in travel demand.
The increase in passengers is largely due to school holidays, along with a rise in travel to key visiting friends and relatives (VFR) destinations, including India, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom. Additionally, leisure travel to Sri Lanka, Türkiye, and Italy has also seen a noticeable uptick.
New Accessibility Features and Growth Plans
In addition to the new navigation tool, Dubai Airports has introduced enhanced accessibility services for People of Determination (PoD), with clearly marked routes and improved facilities to ensure a smoother airport experience.
DXB, the world’s busiest airport for international passengers, recorded 92.3 million travelers in 2024 and is on track to handle more than 94 million passengers in 2025.
As the Eid travel rush picks up, DXB’s latest initiatives, including real-time navigation and expanded passenger services, aim to ease congestion and improve the airport experience for millions of travelers.
