Daim Zainuddin, Malaysia's former Finance Minister, passed away early on Wednesday at the age of 86. His lawyer, Gurdial Singh Nijar, confirmed the news and mentioned that the funeral would be held the same day. Daim had been in intensive care following a stroke in recent weeks.
Daim served as Finance Minister under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, holding the position from 1984 to 1991 and again from 1999 to 2001. He was a key ally of Mahathir and played a significant role in shaping Malaysia's economic policies during his tenure.
Earlier this year, Daim faced charges under Malaysia's anti-corruption law for failing to disclose his assets, in one of the country's highest-profile graft cases involving prominent figures. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
