Air India Express has raised its free check-in baggage allowance for passengers traveling between the UAE, the Middle East, and other destinations. The carrier will now allow 30kg of free check-in baggage, an increase from its previous allowance.

Cabin Baggage Policy

In addition to the expanded check-in allowance, passengers can bring 7kg of cabin baggage, which can be distributed across two pieces of luggage. Travelers may also carry a laptop baghandbag, or small backpack that fits under the seat.

Extra Baggage for Families with Infants

Families flying with infants will receive an additional 10kg of check-in baggage, bringing their total allowance to 47kg, which includes the 7kg cabin baggage allowance. This extra baggage support is designed to make family travel more convenient.

UAE-India Air Traffic

The UAE-India air route remains one of the busiest globally. Data from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) highlights Dubai and Abu Dhabi as two of the top international destinations for Indian travelers, with Dubai capturing 16% of the market and Abu Dhabi holding 7%.

Expansion and Fleet Growth

Air India Express, which is part of the Tata Group, operates 450 weekly flights between India and the Middle East, linking 19 cities in India with 13 destinations in the region. The airline has seen significant growth, increasing its number of flights by 30% compared to last year. Looking ahead, Air India Express plans to expand its network to more than 50 destinations, including Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand and increased service to Middle Eastern cities such as Abu DhabiDammamMuscat, and Ras al-Khaimah. The airline’s fleet, which is expected to reach 100 aircraft this financial year, is supporting this rapid expansion.

Baggage Flexibility

For travelers wishing to carry fewer items, Air India Express offers Xpress Lite fares, which provide a 3kg cabin baggage allowance at a lower ticket price. Those who need additional baggage can pre-book up to 15kg for domestic flights and 20kg for international flights at discounted rates.

Passengers in Xpress Biz (Business Class) will be allowed 40kg of check-in baggage for international travel.
