Abu Dhabi —The electric vehicle (EV) market in Abu Dhabi is surging, with over 10,000 EVs and 11,000 hybrid vehicles registered by the end of March 2024, according to the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Abdulla Alhashmi, Acting Director of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Sector at Abu Dhabi Mobility, revealed that the number of registered EVs in the emirate grew by an impressive 81 percent between 2022 and 2023. By March 2024, the figures reached 10,013 electric vehicles and 11,139 hybrids on Abu Dhabi’s roads.
Supporting this growth, the number of public EV charging stations has expanded to 313 points strategically distributed across the emirate. Alhashmi confirmed that more stations are planned, with the ITC collaborating with private sector partners to further strengthen the charging infrastructure.
The announcement was made during the Electric Vehicle Innovation Summit (EVIS) 2025, where Abu Dhabi Mobility is showcasing several strategic projects designed to promote intelligent and eco-friendly transport systems. Alhashmi highlighted the summit’s significance, describing it as a vital platform that brings together global leaders, experts, and innovators in the field of sustainable mobility and electric vehicles.
“Our participation reflects Abu Dhabi’s firm commitment to innovation in electric transport and climate neutrality," said Alhashmi. "Through strategic partnerships and technological advancements, we are working to position Abu Dhabi as a global hub for smart, sustainable transportation solutions."
The initiatives align with the UAE’s broader Net Zero 2050 Strategy, aiming to drive the adoption of clean mobility technologies and establish the nation as a leader in sustainable urban development.
As EV ownership continues to climb and infrastructure expands, Abu Dhabi strengthens its position as a pioneer in the Middle East’s transition toward a greener future.
